Special Programs Offered
Audiology: South Pointe provides hearing evaluations, hearing aid assessments, and all styles of hearing aids including programmable and digital hearing aids. South Pointe's highly trained audiologists can help you with your hearing problem.
Aquatic Therapy: At South Pointe Hospital we offer private aquatic therapy. This type of treatment is completed in a 13' x 7' heated therapeutic pool. The buoyancy properties of water decrease the stress of weight bearing on the body's joints, which along with the warmth of the water, allows individuals to increase their flexibility. A water current can be generated to create resistance to promote muscle strengthening. Often times this is accomplished with less or no pain and healing occurs much sooner than a traditional land program. Conditions treated range from arthritis and pain, to orthopeadic and neurological disorders.

Dysphagia Treatment: Speech therapists conduct dysphagia evaluations and therapy to assist patients in learning strategies to improve the swallowing function. The evaluations may be completed in conjuction with the radiology department. Dysphagia, or swallowing disorders, can occur after a stroke or other neurologic condition. The speech therapist may recommend exercises to strengthen muscles or improve coordination. Strategies may include diet modifications, postural changes or the use of specialized equipment to help the patient swallow more safely and effectively.
Hand Therapy Program: A wide variety of specialized services are available for the rehabilitation of hand and upper extremity impairment. Conditions treated include traumatic injuries, orthopedic injuries, burns, industrial accidents, arthritis and neurological progressive disorders. Fabrication and customization splinting are also available.
Kinesiotaping: For over 25 years, Kinesiotaping has provided comfort and stability for patients as a more gentle approach to rehabilitation. Kinesiotape is a woven tape that offers recoil when stretched. It does not require an under wrap and does NOT contain latex. It has been proven to enhance function and decrease pain while holding a joint in a position so an overstretched muscle is provided time to shorten. It also assists in relaxing an overused muscle to allow for more ideal alignment through a joint.
Manual Therapy: A skilled clinical approach using hands-on techniques to diagnose and treat soft tissues and joints to reduce pain, increase range of motion, reduce inflammation, promote tissue repair, facilitate movement, and improve overall function. Common manual therapy techniques include spinal and joint mobilization, soft tissue mobilization, myofascial release, muscle energy technique, and traction.
McKenzie Method: The McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT) continues to be the most researched physical therapy approach in the world for the treatment of back, neck and extremity problems. It promotes the body's potential to heal itself without invasive procedures or medication. South Pointe MDT clinicians have a valid method to determine if you will benefit from MDT or if alternate treatments are needed.
Physical Capacity Evaluations: This specialized evaluation refers to a variety of functional tests used to establish a person's work limitations. The evaluation assesses a person's lifting capacity, fine motor speed and body mechanics.
Sports Medicine Program: Our sports medicine program consists of both aerobic and resistive exercises utilizing the latest rehabilitative equipment and modalities. Therapy is available for patients of all ages and diagnoses. Our goal is to get you back in the game fast.
