Patients First

At South Pointe Hospital we are committed to putting our Patients First in all we do – the words Patients First embody our values. Our patients are our reason for being and the focus of all our activities. We exist to provide the best possible care and outcomes for every patient who comes to us. Our dedication to patients is supported by our four cornerstone values: Quality, Innovation, Teamwork and Service.

South Pointe Hospital is committed to emphasizing empathy in the care we provide our patients by developing a culture of patient-centered care, which promotes the healing of the mind, body and spirit. The elements of a patient-centered culture include:

Access to information: Providing our patients information about their care in an easy to understand, and open manner. We encourage our patients to read their medical chart with their nurse or doctor while in the hospital. We also provide a Health Resource Center, for more information, please call 216.491.6532.

Human Interaction: Human beings caring for each other, creating a healing environment for patients, families, and staff members. Volunteers visit patients bringing carts, caregivers throughout the hospital are involved in patient rounding, giving patients a well-balanced and open communication during their care experience.

Support Systems: Involving those who are close to our patients in their care our Care Partner Program allows the patient to identify a person who he/she considers family to be involved in their care. Care Partners receive a special orientation to the unit and are invited to be present whenever the patient is in need. Care Partners may stay overnight when needed by the patient. Care Partners receive a free meal pass to share a meal provided by room service with the patient.

Arts and Entertainment: Involving art and music in the care of our patients. Each patient room holds framed photos of nature, photographed and donated by the staff members of South Pointe. Calming music is available for all patients to enjoy using a portable music player provided by the hospital. An entertainment cart is shared with patients including, books, magazines, playing cards, CDs, and crossword puzzles.

Healing Environment: Providing personalized care for patients and their families as well as creating organizational cultures which support and nurture staff. There is a family lounge with comfortable seating and a television in each patient area. Also in certain units there are computers and activity areas for family entertainment.

Spirituality: Building on our spiritual foundation to help patients in the healing process. Patients have access to seasonal cards of Hope and Healing, which depict a nature scene and an inspirational quote or poem; these cards are distributed to patients daily by staff when rounding on patients.   A chaplain is available to patients on a daily basis for prayer and spiritual counseling. A White Rose program is used when a patient is facing terminal disease, to alert staff and visitors to be respectful of the sacred place the patient is entering.

Complimentary Therapies: Providing patients a way to include complimentary therapies including Reiki, guided imagery and aromatherapy into the conventional healing process. Volunteers offer Reiki, hand massage and guided imagery to patients on the unit on a regular basis. Requests for these services may be made by calling 216-491-6483. Guided Imagery headsets and players are available on each unit to provide comfort and to help with insomnia, pain or anxiety. The nurse will provide a unit to any patient requesting one. Patients may choose to visit with one of our certified therapy dogs and receive Pet Therapy as well.

Food and Nutrition: Recognizing the connection of food to the comfort of our patients as a way to improve their health. Food has the power to nourish the body and soul of our patients. Room Service menu offers options for patients to choose the food they find comforting. Volunteers bake cookies for patients on various days and each unit gets a visit from the Chef each week with a specialty dessert cart.

Healthy Communities: South Pointe Hospital provides a multitude of community outreach programs to support, enhance and continuously improve its delivery of healthcare services in the community.
