South Pointe Hospital Rehabilitation Center

Overview

Restoring the body, mind and spirit after a serious health episode is one of medicine's greatest challenges. The process of recovery from traumatic injury, illness, or disability can be long and challenging. At the South Pointe Hospital Rehabilitation Center, we provide people with the wherewithal to pursue the path to recovery in the inpatient setting. We bring extraordinary tools to help meet these challenges and achieve the greatest possible degree of independence. We strive to make our rehabilitation process a seamless continuum of care based on a highly advanced method of restoring the body, mind and spirit. This method provides varying levels of care delivered to patients as they progress seamlessly through the continuum including acute inpatient care, subacute care, comprehensive inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, home health and follow-up care - all within our system of hospitals and post acute services. Under the active medical management and close supervision of physiatrists, physician specialists in rehabilitation, the Rehabilitation Center offers immediate access to acute hospital care and diagnostics 24 hours a day. Should a patient need immediate medical attention, the Rehabilitation Center is located on the campus of South Pointe Hospital.

What does rehabilitation therapy do for the patient?

Rehabilitation is a process that provides medical care and teaches people how to make the most of life - physically, mentally and socially. It enhances the independent function of persons who become disabled as a result of trauma or disease and helps people find new ways to accomplish activities of daily living such as walking, dressing, communicating with others, operating a car or preparing a meal. Mastery of these types of skills allows individuals to return to the workplace and society as a whole.

What is the team approach?

When you enter the Rehabilitation Center you are assigned an entire team of skilled professionals who are trained to guide you through your rehabilitation. Your interdisciplinary team will include a combination of the following: physiatrist (a physician specializing in rehabilitative medicine), rehabilitation nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, social workers, speech/language therapists, audiologists, recreational therapists, dietitians, nutritional representatives and post acute care coordinators. Your team is not complete, however, without the presence of your family. We rely on family members to help us guide, advise, and support you. We strongly encourage your family to visit and participate in your rehabilitation.

Our program offers:

  • An individualized, intense therapy program
  • State-of-the-art equipment
  • Spacious, modern therapy suites with home-like settings
